| Black United Fund of Texas, Inc. (BUFTX) is a culturally based non-profit organization, which was established in 1987 to create opportunities for underserved communities throughout Texas. We do not define underserved communities by race, creed, economic status, or any other terminology of the more traditional definitions. Rather, we choose a broader set of decisive factors and define underserved communities as groups of people whose life conditions are deplorable. community circumstances, being denied adequate education, resources, jobs, and opportunities; have contributed and created barriers that exclude their rights to equal access.
We operate as a mechanism that is defined as a system to organize human and financial resources to improve the quality of life in the Black community. The process of self-help funding affords the community to achieve and develop tools that will empower them to understand how to help themselves and become self -sufficient. The organization's main thrust is to address the causes of problems facing the community, consequently to attain results, in order to stop re-cycling poverty. The operating principles of the National Black United Fund and its affiliates are: Self-Help, Mutual Aid and Volunteerism.
Black United Fund of Texas Charities, Inc. is an auspice of agencies that promote self-help as a way of life. We are the conduit for social change; the source that will move social and human interest to a real level of transformation. By addressing the unseen concerns and social injustice issues, structure opportunities that inspire living, embrace the arts, encourage education and work ethics, provide adequate and, preventative health care, insure social justice is practiced and promote environmental consciousness.
Our vision is to help people understand how to help change their behavior, therefore, changing their community by encompassing the principals that generate lasting, effective, positive, results. Our mission is to actively seek to identify and reach those underserved communities in need of re-conditioning, in order for them to realize that God has given them all they need to help themselves.
