The reasons 15,000 Law Enforcement Professionals have joined CLEAT:
CLEAT is a police labor organization and we are proud of it. We are not a fraternal order or management friendly employee association that believes state and federal grants are our core interests. CLEAT was formed in 1976 to provide three core services to officers – legal representation, political action and labor relations expertise. CLEAT has been the leading advocate for law enforcement professionals in those fields for 28 years.
CLEAT is the only statewide police labor organization with staff attorneys available 24/7. Real licensed Texas attorneys who are experienced in Texas labor laws and work only for you. Unlike some other statewide police organizations, you will not have to argue with a former policeman who acts as the gatekeeper to protect their dwindling legal funds; you will not have to call some 800 number up north and explain Texas law to some out-of-state law firm; you will never have to call information to locate an attorney in the middle of the night; and you will never have to wait for your case to be handled because the private lawyer the organization hired is too busy in court representing criminal clients.
CLEAT believes that political action is the only way to protect the wages, benefits and working conditions of law enforcement professionals. There is a reason every statewide office holder and political candidate seeks the CLEAT endorsement. There is a reason police chiefs, sheriffs, city managers, county commissioners and management have never pushed a bill through the state legislature that was opposed by CLEAT. CLEAT is the most feared and respected advocate for officers in the state – period! You do not get that reputation and respect by wanting to be liked.
CLEAT believes every law enforcement professional deserves the right to negotiate their wages, benefits and working condition. We are the only statewide police organization that works relentlessly toward that goal. That is the reason 28 bargaining units are affiliated with CLEAT and 15,000 Texas law enforcement professionals have joined together to make CLEAT a greater force for you.
