 Site Information

(Formerly Educational Employees Credit Union.) Information on services, savings and loan rates, locations, and employment.

With humble beginnings of $50 in assets and ten members, EECU has grown over the past seventy years from a small credit union to a significant Fort Worth area financial institution serving thousands of local citizens.

On December 4, 1934, ten Fort Worth educators and administrators met with the Dallas Teachers Credit Union president to discuss forming a credit union for area teachers. Three months later, Fort Worth Teachers Credit Union opened its doors in an office in the Fort Worth ISD administration building, which was managed on a part-time basis by members. By the end of 1935, FWTCU had relocated to a desk on the mezzanine level of the Westbrook Hotel, which had generously donated the space. The credit union now boasted a total of 188 members, had given out 75 loans for a total of $8,560, and had $9,563 on deposit.

Since its early inception, EECU has been perceived as the "Members" credit union. We are member owned, and member operated for the sole purpose of helping members reach their financial goals. That's the "American Dream." To have access to low-cost financial services through which people of modest means are able to become financially sufficient. In its infancy EECU epitomized the concept of people helping people. That's still our hallmark today. We have always been committed to serving this community in past, we are positioned to serve effectively tomorrow and our long range plans show EECU to be a prominent player in the future.

Change and growth continued, and in 1974, the board of directors adopted a new name, Educational Employees Credit Union. To accommodate its rapidly expanding membership, in 1980 EECU moved into it’s present home office at 1617 W. Seventh Street. In March of 1997, EECU became a Community Chartered Credit Union, which opened up membership to almost all Burleson, Tarrant, and Parker county residents and their families. A year later, EECU entered the computer age when their web page was introduced at www.eecu.org. In December of 2000, the official name of the credit union changed from Educational Employees Credit Union to EECU.

Today EECU is viewed as the community credit union, where customers shop and transact their business in their neighborhoods with ease and comfort. EECU is here to do business and we are thoroughly committed to helping this community with its financial needs.

EECU continues to grow and develop its services for an expanding member base. Its primary focus continues to be on individual consumers, and its “people helping their neighbors” philosophy is what has made it a vibrant and strong financial organization, that will continue to play an important role in the community for many years to come.
