The Association of Electric Companies of Texas, Inc. (AECT) is a trade organization representing all investor-owned utilities in Texas. Organized in 1978, AECT provides a forum for electric-utility representatives to address public policy issues related to the industry, and communicate with state and federal government officials.
AECT member companies are responsible for generating over 85 percent of the state's electricity, and serve over 75 percent of the state's electricity customers. Member companies vigorously promote economic development by working with local communities and chambers of commerce to attract new industry and jobs to Texas, and to encourage existing businesses to expand in the state.
