 Site Information

Offers an educational and fun history of civilization. Provides location information, schedule of exhibitions and events, and tour.

The Museum of Printing History collects and exhibits artifacts pertaining to the history of printing and printmaking as well as publications which influenced history in a significant way. We also collect and exhibit representative works by printers and print artists, both historical and contemporary.

We are unique among printing museums in the US in that our collection is more than antique machinery and equipment. Although we have an extensive collection of type, books and ephemera pertaining to the commercial printing industry, and various types of presses and printing equipment, our exhibits emphasize the "democratic art" of printing (popular themes and artists) and the use of printing to preserve knowledge, influence opinion, and spread ideas. The scope of our collection is very broad, from antique playing cards and posters to important illustrated books, miniature books, private press books and fine art prints. Highlights of the collection include:

Mesopotamian Cylinder Seals
Ancient Papyrus Fragments
Asian Movable Type & early Asian Printing
1450 Gutenberg Press Replica
1453 Gutenberg Bible Facsimile
1493 Nuremberg Chronicle Facsimile
1482 Caxton’s “Polychronicon” Leaf
1517 Complutensian Polyglot Bible Leaf
1536 Tyndale’s New Testament Leaf
1575 Luther’s German New Testament Leaf
1582 Rheims Bible
1604 Douay Bible
1611 King James Bible Leaf
1733 Zenger’s “New York Weekly Journal”
1735 Ben Franklin’s “Pennsylvania Gazette”
1765 Tax Stamp
1796 Senefelder Litho Press Replica
1830 Oak Litho Press
Letter Press & Type Collection
Old Master Etchings & Engravings
Antique Bookbinding Equipment

In addition to exhibit items, the Museum maintains an extensive reference library of books on printing history, including historic publications such as Inland Printer. While this library serves primarily as reference for Museum staff, we are exploring ways to make this collection more accessible to the public.

The Museum is always seeking donations of appropriate objects to build our collections. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible. (Conflict of interest prohibits Museum staff from doing an appraisal on donated items, so you should have a valuation done prior to donation.)
