| The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art, the fine art museum of The University of Texas at Austin, is recognized as one of the leading university art museums in the country. The Blanton is first and foremost an object-based teaching and research institution. The excellence of its permanent collections and its changing exhibitions allows the Museum to harness the University's multiple resources in order to serve as a laboratory for innovative curatorial and educational research, a center for scholarship and professional training, and a model for ground-breaking community outreach programs.
Within the University community, the Blanton is an essential teaching resource across disciplines, a catalyst for exchange and collaboration among many departments and entities on campus, and a magnet for campus intellectual and social life. In addition, the Museum provides a training ground for the next generation of museum professionals, from curators and directors to educators and conservators.
The Blanton seeks to foster an understanding of the visual arts for the University and, in so doing, for the community-at-large, by exploring the nature of learning through looking and doing. As the only encyclopedic museum in central Texas, the Blanton responds to the needs of our area's citizens through collaboration with the community, audience involvement, and outreach programs, which help teachers integrate art into all aspects of the K-12 curriculum.
The Blanton plays a vital role in the cultural life of the state of Texas and of Austin, providing an environment that stimulates active, life-long learning in the visual arts. When housed in its new facility in 2005, the Blanton will be a permanent statement of the commitment of The University of Texas to the visual arts.
The Museum's Vision Statement was approved by the president of The University of Texas at Austin, on behalf of the University's Board of Regents, on October 28, 1997. The Vision Statement was created as part of the Museum's Strategic Plan, an exhaustive planning document that was developed by a committee of University, community, and Museum staff members.
