| The duo of John and Mark Dujka are celebrating their sixteenth year in the entertainment business. They have appeared at numerous public and private celebrations spreading their excitement for the traditional music that helped build and strengthen Czech and German communities in the state. Their music can be heard on polka radio programs across the nation and have won numerous awards from the Texas Polka Music Association for their three recordings: "At the Dance", "I Got My Education Out Behind the Barn", and "Whenever We Get Together" , all of which feature polkas and waltzes sung in Czech, English, and German. In 1996, they showed their versatility as musicians with the release of a CD recording entitled "It's Country Time (pictured above) which features their favorite country and western songs. Their 1999 release "The Tradition Continues...The Best of the Dujka Brothers" featured 22 songs once again displaying the Dujka Brother's vocal and instrumental mastery of polkas and waltzes. As a bonus, the CD includes two original songs written by John Dujka, "When I Dance With You (Waltz)" and "Pivo and Kolaches (Cerveza and Tamales) Polka which are real "ear catchers".
The Dujka Brothers most recent recording was released in November of 2001 and is entitled, "Grandpa's List: The Best of the Dujka Brothers, Vol. II" Once again, the Dujka Brothers pay homage to their polka/waltz roots in this recording by including 20 favorites from their Grandpa Brossmann's list which he kept in his billfold for reference during impromptu performances. There are two brand new songs to the polka/waltz repertory . The first track is a polka written by John Dujka entitled "I Just Wanna Have Fun" which tells the story of growing up going to polka dances that were commonplace each Sunday in central Texas. The other new song was written by two new polka artists, Daniel Klapuch of Moravia, TX and Mark Hermes of Hallettsville, TX. Their waltz, "Moon Over Morovia" speaks of the little tavern in that has been the center of community life for over a decade. Other favorites on the CD include "The Lovely Mary Polka", Wence Shimek's "Memories Waltz", "The Headache Waltz", "Fire Brigade Polka", "Mountain Valley Waltz", and a rousing "Beer Medley" featuring the Beer Barrel polka and other favorite drinking songs.
When they are not performing on stage, John and Mark maintain active professional lives. John, his wife Julie, son William, and daughter Kalyn reside in Brenham, Texas. He is instructor of Piano and Music Theory at Blinn College, Brenham Campus and also maintains a large piano studio. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in piano from the University of Houston where he studied with Albert Hirsh, Ruth Tomforhde, and Abbey Simon.
